DNSFilter: Rise in Malicious Domains Highlights Cybersecurity Need https://virtualvers.com/technology/dnsfilter-rise-in-malicious-domains-highlights-cybersecurity-need/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=dnsfilter-rise-in-malicious-domains-highlights-cybersecurity-need Thu, 10 Oct 2024 20:14:21 +0000 https://virtualvers.com/?p=8992 DNSFilter Finds Rise in Malicious Domains Underscores Importance of Cybersecurity Awareness at All Levels

Percentage of malicious domains is rising, requiring training and DNS protection

WASHINGTON, Oct. 10, 2024 /PRNewswire/ — New data from DNSFilter finds that threat levels have increased year-over-year, with malware remaining the most significant — accounting for more than half of threat queries on the DNSFilter network. These findings are a stark reminder that all employees, regardless of technical skill level, need robust cybersecurity education and training as risks multiply.

Data from DNSFilter’s network shows that the percentage of unique domains the company’s users tried to access (but were blocked as threats) rose from 1.6% in Q3 2023 to 3.6% in Q3 2024 – a significant increase. Malicious domain queries represented more than 16.6 billion potential threats between July and September 2024. These threats include malware, phishing and deception, and botnet domains.

DNS remains a significant attack vector for malicious actors, with different industries facing specific types of threats. DNSFilter’s research found:

  • Technology and education sectors have a high occurrence of phishing and deception sites. This necessitates a multi-pronged security strategy.
  • The manufacturing sector is much more likely to encounter malware than phishing, which could be because it depends on legacy systems, which are usually easier to exploit.
  • Crypto mining requests are the biggest threat in the telecommunication sector. Though the industry is a key target for cryptojacking, many companies still do not have policies for blocking crypto mining, which exposes them to avoidable security risks.

The data also shows that bad actors are making the most of current events.

  • During the Paris Olympics, DNSFilter saw a sharp spike in traffic to potentially malicious domains containing the word “Olympic.” For example, on August 1, the spike peaked by a massive 546% above average for this time.
  • With the advent of hurricane season, there was heightened activity in domains with the word “hurricane.” Malicious queries surged on Sept. 27 by 460% over the daily average for domains with this word.

Ken Carnesi, CEO and co-founder, DNSFilter, said: “Bad actors take advantage of both the highs and lows of life. Any person at any organization has the same chance of encountering a malicious link. The standard cyber hygiene tips apply: use unique passwords, verify who you are ‘talking’ to before handing over credentials, and think before you click. That last one is easy to forget sometimes, especially when people are in a hurry, so organizations need to leverage protective DNS to better safeguard employees.”

About the company:
DNSFilter is redefining how organizations secure their largest threat vector: the Internet itself. DNSFilter is making the Internet safer and workplaces more productive by blocking threats at the DNS layer. DNSFilter resolves upwards of 130 billion daily queries. With 79% of attacks using Domain Name System (DNS), DNSFilter provides the world’s fastest protective DNS powered by AI, blocking threats an average of 10 days faster than traditional threat feeds. Over 35 million users trust DNSFilter to protect them from phishing, malware, and advanced cyber threats.

Food Bayana Updates Delivery with Pudu Robotics and Pentamaster https://virtualvers.com/technology/food-bayana-updates-delivery-with-pudu-robotics-and-pentamaster/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=food-bayana-updates-delivery-with-pudu-robotics-and-pentamaster Wed, 09 Oct 2024 19:58:08 +0000 https://virtualvers.com/?p=8768 Food Bayana Modernizes Its Delivery Processes with Pudu Robotics and Pentamaster Corporation Berhad

GEORGE TOWN, Malaysia, Oct. 9, 2024 /PRNewswire/ — Food Bayana, a new food hub in Bayan Lepas, has partnered with Pudu Robotics and Pentamaster Corporation Berhad to revolutionize its operations. This collaboration marks a significant step in Food Bayana’s digital transformation, seamlessly integrating advanced automation with diverse, mouthwatering cuisine to deliver an unmatched dining experience.

As Malaysia’s first fully automated food hub, Food Bayana has redefined the dining landscape. It has gathered 31 Penang’s finest hawkers in to a two-story facility that spans over 2,000 square meters. The two-story facility features Pudu Robotics’ FlashBots, ensuring quick, efficient, and precise meal delivery.

Pentamaster Corporation Berhad was key in deploying Pudu Robotics’ FlashBots at Food Bayana. With its expertise in automation, Pentamaster collaborated with Pudu Robotics to design and implement a system customized to the premier food plaza’s needs.

This collaboration has reduced labor costs, minimized human contact, and ensured hot, fresh meal delivery, meeting the demands of Penang’s fast-paced industrial district.

“We used our innovative spirit and like our tagline “Think Automation, Think Pentamaster” to partake into the Food Bayana project to resolve challenges on how to deliver the food efficiently to the patrons of Food Bayana given it is a 2-storey building, hence we accepted the challenge and transform Food Bayana in to what it is today,” stated Chuah Choon Bin, Chairman of Pentamaster Corporation Bhd.

Food Bayana utilizes 30 FlashBot delivery robots with real-time order tracking, efficient navigation, and 3D obstacle avoidance. The food hub organizes its two floors into delivery zones, where FlashBots swiftly transport meals to designated spots. This approach speeds up service, reduces human contact, and keeps meals hot and fresh.

Customers place their orders at food stalls on the first floor and receive smartphone notifications as their orders progress. The FlashBots carry the meals from the first floor to pick-up zones on the second floor, where customers collect their orders from warming cabinets with minimal human involvement.

The collaboration between Food Bayana and Pudu Robotics extends beyond mere automation. The partnership underscores a shared commitment to sustainability, efficiency, and technological innovation. By adopting Pudu Robotics’ cutting-edge solutions, Food Bayana not only enhances its operational resilience but also positions itself as a pioneer in the future of dining.

“We’re proud to partner with Food Bayana and Pentamaster Corporation to bring dining automation to new heights. The implementation of our FlashBot system at Malaysia’s first fully automated food hub reflects the power of innovation. This project shows how robotics can boost efficiency, reduce costs, and elevate the customer experience. Together, we’re shaping the future of sustainable food service” remarked Felix Zhang, founder and CEO of Pudu Robotics.

This fully automated process has significantly improved operational efficiency, reduced human error, and enhanced customer satisfaction. By automating repetitive tasks, Food Bayana has also reduced labor costs, allowing staff to focus on more value-added services. The FlashBots’ UV sterilization cabinets further ensure a hygienic dining experience, which is crucial in a post-pandemic world.

The collaboration between Food Bayana, Pudu Robotics, and Pentamaster underscores a mutual commitment to innovation and sustainability. The automation process boosts efficiency and positions Food Bayana as a pioneering force in Malaysia’s food service industry. The success of this initiative lays the groundwork for future advancements, such as the potential introduction of robotic arms to enhance operations further.

“Food Bayana exemplifies the seamless blend of modern innovation and sustainable living. It is more than just a food hub, it is a vision where advanced technology and eco-friendly practices come together to create a new experience for F&B,” said Chuah Xin Er, Director of Food Bayana.

As Food Bayana continues its partnership with Pudu Robotics and Pentamaster Corporation Berhad, all three entities are excited about the potential for further advancements. The success of this initiative lays the groundwork for future innovations, such as the introduction of robotic arms and other automated solutions to enhance efficiency and customer satisfaction further.

New Study Confirms the Accuracy of BrainCheck Assess in Comparison with Widely-Used Montreal Cognitive Assessment (MoCA) https://virtualvers.com/technology/new-study-confirms-braincheck-assess-accuracy-vs-moca/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=new-study-confirms-braincheck-assess-accuracy-vs-moca Wed, 09 Oct 2024 08:08:43 +0000 https://virtualvers.com/?p=8671 Study published in Frontiers in Psychology shows BrainCheck Assess is a reliable and accurate digital cognitive assessment

AUSTIN, Texas, Oct. 8, 2024 /PRNewswire/ — BrainCheck, Inc., a digital health innovator delivering next-generation technology into the growing digital cognitive assessment market, announced a new study published in Frontiers in Psychology confirms the accuracy of BrainCheck Assess™ in a comparison with the widely-used Montreal Cognitive Assessment (MoCA). Researchers found a strong Pearson correlation coefficient of 0.77 and comparable cut-off scores between BrainCheck Assess and MoCA, affirming BrainCheck Assess is a reliable and accurate digital cognitive assessment.

“This study not only reaffirms that BrainCheck Assess aligns with the gold standard in cognitive assessments, but it also demonstrates that the comparable scores and cutoff points between BrainCheck and the MoCA provide critical insights for clinical application,” said Mary Patterson, Senior Director of Clinical Operations at BrainCheck. “Empowering healthcare providers to have informed discussions about cognitive impairment is fundamental to our mission. This research equips providers with the essential knowledge needed to effectively utilize our standard battery in clinical practice, enhancing patient care through precise and actionable cognitive health assessments.”

BrainCheck’s standard battery, BrainCheck Assess, is a FDA Class II medical device that easily and objectively detects signs of cognitive impairment, which may have association with dementias, including Alzheimer’s disease. As a digital solution, BrainCheck Assess empowers providers to evaluate and track cognitive health over time – from any device, in any location.

“The Montreal Cognitive Assessment (MoCA) is a widely used cognitive screening tool, but it has limitations,” said Reza Ghomi, MD, MSE, Neuropsychiatrist, Department of Neurology, Institute for Neuroengineering, & eScience Institute, University of Washington, Seattle and Chief Medical Officer, BrainCheck. “Our study demonstrates that BrainCheck Assess not only matches MoCA’s accuracy, it also offers key advantages: it provides a more detailed analysis of cognitive domains and seamlessly integrates with EHR systems for automated, population-level screening. BrainCheck Assess is also part of a comprehensive digital platform that simplifies the entire cognitive care process—from diagnosis to care planning—making it a more efficient and holistic solution.”

In the subset analysis from previous studies, researchers found BrainCheck showed a high degree of alignment with the widely-used MoCA in differentiating normal cognition, mild cognitive impairment, and dementia using commonly accepted cutoffs.

“Switching from paper-based tools to BrainCheck has completely transformed how we conduct cognitive assessments,” said Bruce Lowell, MD, a geriatrician and board-certified internist at New York Hospital Queens and North Shore Hospital Manhasset. “BrainCheck not only streamlines the process, but it also enables me to monitor changes in cognitive function over time and collaborate more effectively with both patients and caregivers.”

New Black Duck Research Finds Majority of DevSecOps Teams Not Confident About Securing AI-Generated Code https://virtualvers.com/technology/black-duck-global-state-of-devsecops-2024/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=black-duck-global-state-of-devsecops-2024 Wed, 09 Oct 2024 07:47:04 +0000 https://virtualvers.com/?p=8652 The survey analyzes the tug-of-war that AI-assisted coding tools present in the software development process

BURLINGTON, Mass., Oct. 8, 2024 /PRNewswire/ — Black Duck® Software, Inc. (“Black Duck”) today announced the publication of the “Global State of DevSecOps 2024” report examining the trends, challenges, and opportunities impacting software security. According to the data, a wave of AI adoption is radically shifting how software goes from ideation to deployment. Nearly all survey respondents – over 90% – said that they are using AI in some capacity for their software development process, demonstrating just how crucial it is for organizations to take the proper security measures throughout the entire development lifecycle. And yet, 67% of respondents were concerned about securing AI-generated code.

Industries across the Technology, Cybersecurity, Fintech, Education, Banking/Financial, Healthcare, Media, Insurance, Transportation, and Utilities sectors reported similar high adoption, underscoring the importance of having seamless security mechanisms in place. In the Nonprofit sector, which is traditionally slower to technological advancements due to constrained resources, at least half of organizations surveyed reported that they were using AI. Unsurprisingly, the larger the organization, the more likely it has significantly adopted some facet of AI in its software development.

“AI is a technology enabler that should be invested in, not feared, so long as the proper guardrails are being prioritized,” said Jason Schmitt, CEO of Black Duck. “For DevSecOps teams, that means finding sensible uses to implement AI into the software development process and layering the proper governance strategy on top of it to protect the heart and soul of an organization – its data.”

The new report from Black Duck is based on a survey conducted by Censuswide, which polled more than 1,000 IT professionals around the world – including software developers, AppSec professionals, CISOs, and DevOps engineers across multiple countries and industries. Key findings from the report include:

  • AI is the standard, but security pros aren’t fully convinced. A large majority (85%) of survey respondents noted that they have at least some measures in place to address the challenges posed by AI-generated code, such as potential IP, copyright, and license issues that an AI tool may introduce into proprietary software. However, less than a quarter (24%) are “very confident” in their policies and processes for testing this code.
  • Security is still a barrier to speed. More than half of respondents (61%) said that security testing moderately or severely slows down development. Fifty percent of those that feel this way also say that most projects are still being added manually.
  • A broad proliferation of tools is leading to high levels of testing inconsistencies. A whopping 82% of organizations are using between 6 and 20 different security testing tools, making it challenging to effectively integrate and correlate results across platforms and pipelines, leading to difficulty in distinguishing between genuine issues and false positives.

MolecuLight Announces Groundbreaking Study on Antimicrobial Stewardship in Wound Care https://virtualvers.com/technology/moleculight-announces-groundbreaking-study/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=moleculight-announces-groundbreaking-study Wed, 09 Oct 2024 07:42:41 +0000 https://virtualvers.com/?p=8648 PITTSBURGH, Oct. 8, 2024 /PRNewswire/ — MolecuLight Inc., the global leader in fluorescence imaging technology for real-time detection of harmful bacteria in wound care, is excited to announce the publication of a new study that addresses a critical challenge in wound care: the need for standardized and evidence-based antibiotic and antimicrobial prescribing. Published in Diagnostics, this groundbreaking research underscores the urgent need for widespread adoption of antimicrobial stewardship programs (ASPs) and reveals the significant potential to improve prescribing practices with MolecuLight.

The study, led by Dr. Thomas Serena and titled “Audit of Antimicrobial Prescribing Trends in 1447 Outpatient Wound Assessments: Baseline Rates and Impact of Bacterial Fluorescence Imaging”, examined antimicrobial prescribing practices in 2022 across eight U.S. outpatient wound clinics. By comparing trends between clinics with and without MolecuLight, the research provides valuable insights into current prescribing practices and the impact of MolecuLight on antimicrobial use.

Dr. Serena, a dedicated advocate in the fight against antimicrobial resistance, shares his insights: “Antimicrobial resistance is a critical challenge across all areas of medicine, including wound care. Our study represents a significant advancement in tackling this issue. We discovered that using fluorescence imaging during patient assessments reduced the average number of concurrent medications prescribed—from 1.4 per patient with standard clinical examination to just 1 per patient. Additionally, systemic antibiotics made up only 8% of prescriptions in the fluorescence group, compared to 36% in the standard care group.”

He continues, “Our research highlights a notable shift towards topical prescriptions in the fluorescence imaging group (92%) compared to standard care (64%). These results emphasize the profound impact of real-time diagnostic technologies. In this case, MolecuLight enabled clinicians to make immediate and informed decisions, reducing the reliance on systemic antibiotics and reinforcing the efficacy of localized treatments, as supported by extensive research.”

Anil Amlani, CEO of MolecuLight, also commented on this groundbreaking research: “This study underscores the transformative power of MolecuLight as a real-time bacterial detection tool. By providing objective and actionable information directly at the bedside, our devices significantly reduce antibiotic misuse, making MolecuLight a critical component of effective antimicrobial stewardship programs (ASPs).” He added, ” Our technology is instrumental in combating overprescribing and enhancing patient outcomes. This new research suggests that MolecuLight has an important role to play in addressing one of the most concerning and pressing public health issues to date, reinforcing its value to healthcare providers managing wounds and emphasizing our commitment to advancing health care practices.”
